Oak Plantation Campground

Normally we don’t pull into a campground until late afternoon but today was different. We got to the campground at 10 am. Our plan was to get into Charleston early and tour as much as we could before heading out tomorrow for Savannah. We paid for our site and were told that we couldn’t go to our site until Noon. We could pull to the side and park in the driveway or pull onto the gravel driveway next to the restrooms but no site parking.

(To the Left is a picture of our site 100 feet from where we are parked)

Of course we had already paid and there was a very strict no refund policy. So we sat in the driveway looking directly at our empty campsite. The owner was very aloof and a bit sour but eventually he did let us go to the site (45 minutes later).
We drove into Charleston and took a tour of the city. It is a beautiful city with incredible history and architecture. It is also a very expensive place to live. We did not realize that the city is 14 feet below sea level demonstrated to us by the tour bus driver as he parked along the waterfront with us looking up over the wall to the ocean. After the tour we walked around the city (approximately six miles) admiring its grandeur stopping to eat at a local pub. Then it was back to the RV to plan the next leg of our trip. The weather has been great and we are enjoying the sunshine. -FORT SUMTER-
